My social media strategy

Copy this if you too want 345 subscribers 😎

Yes, the subject line is facetious.

Most of you on the list probably have at least 10x my numbers on X.

But, I thought I would share my strategy for growth anyway, haha.

Best case, y’all can tell me what I’m doing wrong!

So here it is.

Platform

I am focused on X.

My LinkedIn account is larger (1220 followers) but I have deeper connections on X and believe that the people there are generally more my type.

Content pillars

The stuff I have been focusing on generally fit into 3 pillars:

  • My personal philosophy (Optimalism)

  • Authority building (Ghostletter - newsletter building agency)

  • Misc content from my life (funny stuff, memes, or observations)

Ideation

I use the software Logseq for notes. It’s my second brain and automatically saves highlights from Readwise and Kindle for webpage and book content. I also use this for journaling and introspection.

Google sheets is where I do most of my structured writing. I’ll take notes and ideas from Logseq, paste it into a doc, and then write.

Finally, I use Notion to store finalized work. Frameworks, structures, and templates. All stuff that I can reference as needed.

I sometimes use this ai prompt to craft a bunch of ideas:

To generate ideas, I want you to imagine a "Content matrix" table. In this table, the X axis contains types of content, meaning ways to expand on a topic. The Y axis contains content topics to be matched with the X axis.

The X-axis has these content types, formatted like this: [NAME] (explanation on how to use it)

1. [Actionable] (Step-by-step guides, that are ultra specific in teaching readers how to do something)

2. [Motivational] (Inspirational personal or industry stories about people who did something extraordinary)

4. [Observation] (Observe a hidden, secret, or silent but IMPORTANT trend in the topic/industry)

4. [Contrarian] (Go against the common advice and say something contrarian to the common beliefs on the topic, and explain why)

5. [Surprising comparisons] (Seemingly dissimilar topics or areas that are tied together by an idea or principle; think Freakonomics)

[Y AXIS]
The Y axis contains 5 topics I often talk about:

1. Ghostwriting

2. Copywriting

3. Newsletters

4. Business

5. Personal growth principles

After result:

Now, I want you to write out this table and write out a content idea at the intersections of the X and Y axes. You match each topic with a content type.

For example, a content idea matching the topic "Content Strategy" with the content type "How can people do it?" would be "7 things you need to know to create your content strategy"]

Schedule

I am way more consistent when I have a plan in place.

My goal is to post between 9-12 EST every day and I break down the schedule based on the frequency of the post type.

  • 1x/week:

    • An authority case-study thread or long form post (Tuesdays)

    • A story tweet that ties into Optimalism and principles (Thursdays)

    • Host a space (Thursdays)

    • Short form video (Fridays)

    • Email list magnet post (quiz or pdf) under previous post

  • 1x/day:

    • A personal hot take, question, or funny tweet

    • A growth tweet like a platitude

    • Speak in a space

    • Write newsletter (300 words)

At the end of the day, my goal is to become an expert communicator. And I’ll do this by creating content, writing, and speaking every day with an authoritative voice.

Summed up, my entire strategy is based on one core principle: "I don't give advice, instead, I share my experience."

I’m so grateful y’all are on this journey with me.

Let’s go,

Swanagan
