Proximity is power

Why I pay for 2 gym memberships

I pay $170/month for gym memberships.

$110 for this amazing local gym. It’s basically the Equinox of Charleston (typically $250/month, but I got grandfathered in). And $60 for Anytime Fitness.

Now you might say I’m an idiot, and you might be right.

In fact, I was just talking to a friend that has never paid for a gym membership. Ever. “The world is my gym.”

Ok, fine.

Point taken.

But, there is a good reason I spend this much a month to lift heavy things off the floor…

Proximity is power.

I think Tony Robbins was the first to utter this phrase. And he is 100% percent correct.

I’m not referring to the relative distance between leg curl machines here. Proximity to other people.

I’m paying to be in the room with people that I admire. At the luxury gym, the people I hang out with are:

  1. In super great shape and take fitness very seriously.

  2. Highly motivated and successful outside of the gym (generally)

  3. Extremely willing to share tips and be helpful

Worth every penny. Plus there is a cold plunge and sauna.

At Anytime Fitness, I go there with my best friend. $60/month is a small price to pay to hang out with my buddy.

You are 100% the sum of the people that you hang out with.

So choose wisely. And choose the room where you aren’t the strongest, or the smartest, or the most successful. Because once you get in that room as a highly motivated individual, those people will pull you up to their level.

Don’t let pride get in the way. You WANT to be the small fish in a big pond.

So, don’t hesitate.

Buy that extremely expensive coaching program, join that cohort, and pay for that mastermind.

It will change your life in a good way.
