Stop pretending it needs to be perfect
This video blew my mind!
If you don’t have 11 minutes and 27 seconds, I’ll fill you in.
This YouTube channel brought in a bass player, Sean Hurley, that has played with John Mayer, Alicia Keys, etc. to hear a song he’s never heard before, all with the bass track missing.
Then after ONLY 1 LISTEN, they had him record a bass track.
Now, this guy is a real pro. But he still blew my mind.
After hearing this pretty complicated tune only once, he laid down a track, and absolutely nailed it!
2 thoughts came to mind while watching this:
This is how a professional operates: able to perform a skill masterfully at the drop of a hat, with no preparation.
I wish every beginning creator would watch this video.
So why should every creator watch this?
At the start of the video, the hosts ask “Sean, are you ready?”
His response: “No!! Let’s go!”
But he jumps right in and kills it.
This guy, pro though he is, is feeling what each online creator feels each time they think about posting on X, LinkedIn, YouTube, whatever.
“I’m not good enough.”
“People are watching, what if they hate it?”
“I’m going to make a fool of myself.”
But, here is what makes Sean different from Joe Schmo-online-creator-that-only-posts-2x-week-because-they-are-self-conscious.
He does it anyway.
Is it absolutely perfect? I mean, pretty close. But not totally.
Is it great? Yes, it is.
So next time you have that thought “Is this absolutely perfect enough to post?”...
Just say: “No, let’s go!!!”
See you tomorrow,
