Esoteric phrases from dead languages

(latin)

Festina lente.

That’s latin.

And it means “make haste slowly.”

That my friends is an oxymoron.

But I think it makes sense.

To me, it means 2 things:

  1. Focus on a massive goal

  2. Never quit

In fact, when I read it, I see:

“Make haste (toward a massive goal) slowly (through intentional daily actions that compound over a long time horizon).

Stay with me here.

Imagine you're climbing a mountain.

Now, you could speed run all the way and probably injure yourself and never make it…

Or you could adopt a steady pace, conserving energy for the long haul.

That’s what festina lent means.

Avoid rushing.

Avoid shiny object syndrome.

Avoid running around like a chicken with it’s head chopped off constantly pivoting.

Pace yourself.

Go slow to go fast.

Festina lente.
