Do this if you want to grow a personal brand

My favorite thing about mowing?

Catching up on podcast episodes.

Mowing my lawn takes about 1 hour.

Now, thatā€™s not enough time to get through a Tim Ferriss episode (>3 hours) but it is the perfect amount of time for a MFM (My First Million) podcast.

So, thatā€™s exactly what I did yesterday while braving the SC 95 degree heat + 101% humidity with my Oakley blades and second favorite tank top (that I donā€™t mind to sweat in).

The podcast I chose to listen to over the gentle whir of the electric motor-driven blades was Episode 589 where Shaan Puri sits down with David Perell to reveal every framework he knows to become a better storyteller, a better writer, and a better creator of binge-worthy content.

And let me tell youā€¦

It was great.

Like, shut-off-my-mower-every-2-minutes-to-take-a-note-on-my-iphone-great.

David was asking great questions, and Shaan was on fire (as usual).

One idea in particular really caught my interest.

A binge bank.

What is a binge bank, you may ask?

Great question. According to Shaan, a binge bank is content that people can go down a rabbit hole with when they discover your profile online.

It is the stuff that makes people want to read just one more post, watch one more video, or listen to one more podcast.

It is a powerful idea.

And one Iā€™m not necessarily utilizing.

The cool thing about a binge bank is that it doesnā€™t matter if each piece of content doesnā€™t get a lot of views. What does matter is that you are creating content that will be there when people discover you.

No matter what your opinion is of your content, or how good you think it is, you donā€™t necessarily deserve attention until you build up a binge bank of interesting things.

Because, as Shaan says, once you share a bunch of (>3) interesting things, you become interesting.

People will follow you to the ends of the earth if you give them a feeling through your content that they canā€™t get anywhere else.

The main takeaway for me is thisā€¦

Stop worrying about meaningless metrics like views.

Start building a binge bank of content that is a representation of the cool stuff that:

  • Grabs your attention

  • Is a topic that you are passionate about

  • Fires you up and makes you want to write for 2 hours at a time

So, join me and letā€™s start working on our binge banks.
