A guitar builder's guide to getting rich

A most powerful mindset

When I was 15, my dad struck up a friendship with a guy named Bob.

Bob was about 70, and one of the most interesting people I’d ever met.

He had built recurve bows, pool cues, airplanes, and was a professional golfer.

But best of all (to me), he built guitars.

And they were incredible.

Built of beautiful, exotic tonewoods, they looked even better than they sounded (and they sounded fantastic).

The first trip we made to his house to check out his guitars, Bob said something I’ll never forget:

“I’m not the smartest person in the world, but if you don’t want me to learn how you do something, don’t let me see you do it.”

Wow.

I still remember that like it was yesterday.

And it’s a way of living that I have aspired to ever since.

Why?

Because it is a powerful framework for achieving the stuff that you thought was impossible.

Here’s a few ways that I incorporate this into my daily life.

Be around rich people.

There’s no better way to shatter your limiting beliefs than to be in the same room as someone that has accomplished something wildly successful.

This is why I pay money for communities that offer access to these kind of people.

For instance, I am currently in a community with a coach that is doing $80k revenue weeks.

That’s insane to me.

And something I didn’t realize was possible a few years ago.

Communities are one of the best ways to get into these rooms.

They are generally expensive, but worth every penny.

Chase your curiosity.

This may not seem relevant, but the other best way to find those ceiling-shattering examples of what’s possible is to follow your curiosity.

Going down rabbit holes on topics that you genuinely care about is one of the best learning tactics ever.

For instance, I’ve been really getting into men’s fashion and the art behind it.

Derek Guy (@dieworkwear on X) has led me down some really interesting rabbit holes recently.

This guy has over 1,000,000 followers on X, talking about his passion.

Wild.

And I’m learning a ton.

You may be asking what this has to do with building a business online.

Well, for me it opens up a whole new niche that I could target for my ghostwriting agency, one that I have a huge interest in.

If I would have stuck with marketing to other marketers, I never would have found Derek.

So, go down some rabbit holes.

Getting into the right rooms and going down esoteric rabbit holes is a the single best way to see what’s out there and possible.

Because remember, if that random person on the internet can do it, you can too.

So get out there and be around rich and esoteric people.

You'll realize, they are no different from you.

And the sky is the limit.

Cheers,

Swanagan
