$2 million a year and 30 doctors
That's a hard pass for me, dawg
Picture this.
You’re 45 years old.
You spend $2 million a year bio-hacking your body to regain youth.
A team of 30 doctors are on call and your regimen involves hours and hours of bio-hacking routines which culminate into a night of this:
Yeah…
That’s a hard pass for me dawg.
I think Bryan looked way better before he started doing this anyway:
When people hear the term “optimalism” this could be what comes to mind.
You might be saying to yourself “I want to optimalize my life, but I don’t want to pay Bryan Johnson $50k for an LED head bucket that I sleep in.”
Well, I got you fam.
My version of optimalism isn't the "cold shower everyday" and "wake up at 5 AM everyday" movement.
It isn't about turning into a robot.
It isn't even transhumanism which is interpreted as just a change; could be positive or negative.
No, real optimalism doesn’t cost anything.
You are performing an objective function that starts with your mind and ends in your actions, every single day.
You are being positive. You are taking care of yourself.
You are optimizing yourself. You’re improving. You’re getting better.
It is striving for optimal physical fitness which could be doing 50 pushups beside your bed each morning.
It is striving for optimal mental health. For example, this could mean meditating for 10 minutes a day.
It is optimizing your finances. Which could mean starting out with investing $10 a week.
But none of this happens at the expense of community and relationships with close friends and family.
Now, I’m not trying to bash Bryan. Kudos to what he has achieved. It’s mind blowing.
And I have no idea what his personal life looks like.
But I know if I had his routine I would not be able to spend the kind of time I personally would need with my family.
I’d rather focus on 80/20 principles and work on a more holistic view of an optimal life.
Optimization is not about just pouring all of your focus into just one area.
It’s a give and take.
It means being efficient with the resources that you have RIGHT NOW for the optimal mix of actions that get you to your dream life.
So, don’t worry if you aren’t going to drop $2 million a year on a bus-load-sized group of doctors.
Just keep reading these emails.
Cheers,
Swanagan
